MP Serré announces over 1.3$ million in new funding for infrastructure projects in rural Nickel Belt communities through the Federal Gas Tax Fund top up

Nickel Belt-Greater Sudbury- Residents from Nickel Belt and Greater Sudbury will soon benefit from a one-time bonus top up of the Federal Gas Tax Fund. The federal Gas Tax Fund (GTF) is a source of funding provided up front, twice-a-year, to municipalities to support local infrastructure priorities. Budget 2019 has now allocated 2.2$ billion in additional top up funding above these regular investments roughly doubling what municipalities would have received in previous years. This investment helps grow the middle class, creates healthy communities and promotes sustainable development and long-term prosperity for Canadian families.

This week, the Hon. Francois-Philippe Champagne, Minister of Infrastructure and Communities along with MP for Nickel Belt, Marc Serré and MP for Sudbury, Paul Lefebvre, announced that the city of Greater Sudbury received $10,209,759.96, through the top up of the Gas Tax Fund with much of it designated to being used for road repairs- a true need highlighted in the region.

Nickel rural Communities in the Nickel Belt riding will be receiving $1,359,428.80 in top up funding to undertake municipal infrastructure projects such as road repairs, transit, waste water facilities, recreation facilities and tourism infrastructure and more. The projects generate economic growth and creates jobs ensuring that rural municipalities remain competitive and viable.

West Nipissing: $901,318.33
Burwash: $18,655.07
Greater Sudbury: $10,209,759.96
