Hello Nickel Belt Constituents!
As we gear up for summer months, MP Marc Serré is working hard connecting with his constituents and working on initiatives that benefit Nickel Belt! April was filled with great funding announcements and community events that positively impact the Nickel Belt region ! Here’s a synopsis of what occurred in April:

Important news on the Hill:

  • MP Serré was on Parliamentary Secretary duty representing the Honourable Bernadette Jordan, the Minister of Rural Economic Development in Miramichi, New Brunswick, and in Thunder Bay, Ontario to discuss with local organisations, residents and businesses on how to better support rural regions and create more opportunities
  • MP Serré stood in the House of Commons to highlight April as “Be a Donor” month to bring awareness and to encourage Canadians to register for organ donation https://www.beadonor.ca/
  • MP Serré stood in the House of Commons to recognize the importance of the International Day of Mourning that took place on April 28th, a day meant to honour the men and women lost to workplace tragedies or who’ve suffered workplace injuries

MP Serré was out and about participating in various events:

  • MP Serré participated in the Grow with Google event which focused on advancing economic opportunity through digital skills training for small business owners, entrepreneurs and individuals
  • MP Serré spoke at the Greater Sudbury Chamber of Commerce President Series luncheon at Science North highlighting the many Budget 2019 items benefiting Nickel Belt/ Greater Sudbury and discussed local priorities
  • MP Serré participated in a West Nipissing City Council Meeting to discuss ways to better support the community and on important priorities established by residents, businesses and organizations
  • MP Serré participated in a Day of Action and toured Garson to knock on doors to connect with residents
  • MP Serré spoke at the annual International Day of Mourning event at Laurentian University to honour workers lost to workplace accidents and illnesses and those who’ve suffered injuries
  • MP Serré and volunteers made calls to residents to share important dialogue
  • MP Serré with Amazon Canada Vice Presidents to discuss opportunities for growth and expansion in Nickel Belt/Greater Sudbury and Northern Ontario

 

MP Serré announced over $ 2.5 million in funding that will benefit Nickel Belt:

  • MP Serré announced a $350,000 FedNor investment on behalf of the Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development (ISED), for the Science North Body Works travelling exhibit which will enhance tourism and economic opportunities in Northern Ontario
  • MP Serré announced a total of $76,000 for Conseil des Arts du Nipissing Ouest on behalf of the Honourable Pablo Rodriguez, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Multiculturalism ($30,000) and on behalf of the Honourable Mélanie Joly, Minister of Tourism, Official Languages and La Francophonie ($46,000) to support their artistic programming
  • MP Serré announced $25,000 on behalf of FedNor and Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of ISED to support the ESSO cup hockey tournament, a major event that promotes tourism and business opportunities for Nickel Belt and Greater Sudbury
  • MP Serré announced a $850,000 FedNor investment on behalf of the Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of ISED to enable Cultural Industries Ontario North (CION) to advance the development and promotion of the region’s digital and film media, TV and music industries
  • MP Serré announced an investment of $220,643 on behalf of FedNor and the Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of ISED to support of design and engineering plans for a light industrial/commercial park which will develop the economic infrastructure needed to respond to and stimulate job and business development for the Atikameksheng Anishnawbek First Nation
    MP Serré announced a $1 million investment on behalf of the Honourable Carla Qualtrough, the Minister of Public Services, Procurement & Accessibility to support the Azilda Therapeutic Pool project
