MP Serré issues statement on the Innovation Superclusters Initiative following announcement by The Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science, and Economic Development

NICKEL BELT / GREATER SUBDURY – “As a member of the Standing Committee on Natural Resources, the Standing Committee of Status of Women, and a member of the Indigenous Liberal Caucus, I would like to congratulate Minister Bains, the Department of Innovation, Science, and Economic Development, and the Government of Canada for reaching an important milestone in implementing the Innovation Supercluster Initiative that was announced in Budget 2017. This initiative will bring all sectors of the economy together to create good new jobs, in particular for women and groups that have historically been underrepresented in the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Math) professions.”

“While I am disappointed that the CLEER (Clean, Low-energy, Effective, Engaged and Remediated) Supercluster proposal prepared on behalf of the mining sector by CMIC, CEMI, CIMRE, COREM, IMII, and MSTA was not selected to advance to the next phase of the Innovation Supercluster Initiative, I am confident that the groups behind the CLEER proposal will continue working together and build on the existing mining innovation ecosystem to make Canada a global leader in clean resource development and the responsible sourcing of raw materials.”

“I wish the groups that have advanced to the next stage of the Innovation Supercluster Initiative the best of success as they continue through the selection process.”
