Better community infrastructure in store for French River residents

NICKEL BELT/GREATER SUDBURY, August 21, 2017— The governments of Canada and Ontario are committed to investing in local infrastructure that ensures Canadians and their families have access to better community services and modern and up-to-date community infrastructure that meet their needs. These investments safeguard the health and well-being of residents, protects and preserves the vital local infrastructure while laying the foundation for new economic opportunities to strengthen the middle class across the province.
Marc Serré, Member of Parliament for Nickel Belt, today announced on behalf of the Honourable Amarjeet Sohi, Minister of Infrastructure and Communities, that a new project in French River has been approved under the Government of Canada’s Clean Water and Waste Water Fund. The federal government is providing up to 50 per cent of funding for this project—$50,000. The provincial government is providing $25,000, and the Municipality of French River will provide the balance of funding. This project is essential to keeping our waterways clean and our communities healthy and livable.
Additionally, MP Serré announced a total investment of $148,489 through the federal Gas Tax Fund for the Municipality of French River. The GTF funding supports hundreds of local infrastructure projects that address the most pressing needs of local residents and businesses, from improving drinking water to building new recreational facilities.
Thanks to these investments, residents of French River will benefit from the assessment of Noelville’s wastewater system, storm water infrastructure upgrades as well as long-term funding to help ensure access to good middle class jobs, increased mobility, greater economic opportunities, sustainable communities and a high quality of life.
